We Peaked in ’89.

Washed-up regional rock band. Questionable fashion. 1989 VW GTI. Still turning in too soon.

The Premature Apexers are back on tour at the 24 Hours of Lemons, bringing our classic bad decisions to the track in our original tour car–turned–race car.

Backstory

Back in 1989, The Premature Apexers were almost the next big thing in regional rock. Our entire “tour fleet” was a single VW GTI packed with band gear, questionable fashion, and a dream that smelled like Aqua Net. Our debut single “Turn In Too Soon” got just enough late-night radio play to wreck our priorities and not nearly enough to pay for gas.

The GTI was our tour van, green room, and occasional “band hotel” when the bar tab beat the motel budget. The shows were loud, the solos were long, and—true to our name—the set sometimes ended a bit earlier than the crowd might’ve liked. We’ve never been great at pacing ourselves, on stage or into Turn 1.

We picked a bold, simple logo back then that seemed like a harmless produce choice in ’89. Over the years it’s… taken on some additional meaning. These days the adults snicker, the kids just see a vegetable, and we pretend that’s exactly how we planned it.

Decades, day jobs, and one tragic acoustic phase later, the band is back together. The original tour GTI has been reborn as our Lemons race car, and this season is the comeback tour and “official release” of our new album Redline & Regret. We’re really focusing on endurance this time: hydrate, warm up properly, and try not to send it in way too early.
